A tanker truck crash spilled 9,200 gallons (41,800 litres) of petrol in Lengthy Island, New York, on Wednesday, inflicting a large fireplace. The fireplace division spent over 10 hours placing out the blaze.

Officers had beforehand stated they believed some 13,000 gallons of petrol had been spilled.

The automobile’s driver and two firefighters had been taken to hospital.
