Russia on Friday vetoed a United Nations Safety Council decision denouncing its invasion of Ukraine whereas China, India, and the United Arab Emirates abstained from the vote.
The remaining 11 council members voted in favor, permitting the draft decision to be taken up by the 193-member UN Normal Meeting.
“You possibly can veto this decision however you can’t veto our voices,” U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas Greenfield instructed her Russian counterpart and the council.
She continued: “You can not veto the reality. You can not veto our ideas. You can not veto the Ukrainian folks. You can not veto the UN constitution.”
